VIB, the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology, is a non-profit scientific research institute.The VIB researchers work in research departments of four Flemish universities: Ghent University, K.U.Leuven, the University of Antwerp and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. FWO, the Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen finances basic research which is aimed at moving forward the frontiers of knowledge in all disciplines. Basic research is carried out in the universities of the Flemish Community and in affiliated research institutes. Therefore the FWO is Flanders’ instrument to support and stimulate fundamental research in the scope of scientific inter-university competition.
  The Institute for the promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology (Innovatie door Wetenschap en Technologie, IWT-Flanders) is a public institution in Flanders (Belgium) to provide R&D and innovation support. The institute was established by the Flemish government in 1991. To support its goal the institute has several financial tools and an annual budget of 190 million EUR (in 2002) at its disposal.
  ISRIB, the Institute for the encouragement of Scientific Research and Innovation of Brussels was instituted by the Brussels decree of 26 June 2003, began its activites on 1st July 2004. Because of their small size, unique structure and extreme stability, Nanobodies® combine the advantages of conventional antibody therapeutics with the key features of small-molecule drugs.
